“Lisa Kirk's new body of work continues to challenge any expectations of medium, style, or content in her practice. Kirk employs her typical subversion in ayahuasca cyanotypes and an oversized dream catcher with bronze S’mores, Cheetos, Oreos, Lucky Charms, and Doritos, thus combining banal and ultimately toxic food products and one of the earliest forms of photography with new age mysticism. As always, the artist comments on our culture's dialectic obsessions: here one sees a metaphor for the paradoxical self- help trend that has been appropriated by mass-produced consumer culture, turning it into a multi billion dollar industry.”

Lisa Kirk (b. 1967 in Newport, RI) lives and works in Hudson, New York. She holds a BFA from the School of the Visual Arts, New York and MFA from the University of California, Irvine. Kirk’s work has been exhibited extensively both internationally and domestically, including MoMA PS 1, New York; InvisibleExports, New York; Galeria Comercial, Puerto Rico; PARTICIPANT Inc., New York; and MOT International, London. Her work has been mentioned in in The New York Times, Flash Art, Frieze, Art in America, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, and Art Review Magazine, among others.
